Ravensbourne Degree Show 2020
Ravensbourne University London’s CreativeLab commissioned MTJ to develop an online platform for their 2020 degree show. Ravensbourne’s in-house design team worked on the exciting concepts pitched by their students as a response to the pandemic and the cancellation of the physical 2020 degree show. MTJ brought these ideas to life by creating the generative, fluid-like mask effects throughout the site that blend with the minimalist aesthetic.
The homepage and each of the course pages expose fragments of selected images drawn from across the college. These are visible through the fluid blobs, which respond to the cursor or touch. This interaction influences the blobs' behaviour revealing more of the image.
A back end system was crafted that is both very simple to use and very powerful. Editors were able to easily moderate and style content, with images automatically uploaded to a very fast Content Delivery Network. Using GatsbyJS, the front end of the website combined extremely fast static files with fantastic interactive behaviour, whilst following best-practices and being accessibility and standards-compliant. The website additionally utilises modern Progressive Web Application technologies allowing it to operate offline and work very well on mobile devices.
